Our son Wyatt has been diagnosed with a condition called craniosyostosis. This occurs when plates in the head fuse prematurely. In Wyatt's case his metopic suture has closed causing him to have a boney ridge in the center of his forehead and a triangular shaped head.
Unfortunatly, Mott children's hospital offers only a cranial vault surgery. In this procedure an

incision is made from ear to ear, the forehead is removed, reconstructed, and put back in using dissolvable plates and screws.  This results in large blood loss necessitating blood transfusion, significant swelling, bruising, and 5 to 7 days in the hospital.
Fortunately, we have found an alternative procedure offered at St. Louis children's hospital.  Endoscopic strip craniectomy is a much less invasive procedure. A small incision is made in the hairline and the strip of fused bone is removed. Patients normally do not require a blood transfusion, have minimal swelling and usually leave the hospital the next day. Children are fitted with molding helmets that are worn 23 hours a day until about 1 year of age.
We are asking for donations to pay for medical bills and traveling expenses. Any donation will be greatly appreciated as well as thoughts and prayers for Wyatt to have a successful surgery and speedy recovery.
