Care for Cathy

As many of you know, on September 30th our loved one Cathy Hertz was driving to her job at New Oxford’s Brethren Home when her car was struck  head on by an oncoming car which veered into her lane.  Cathy was airlifted to WellSpan’s Level 1 Trauma Center in York, Pennsylvania where she spent over three weeks in the trauma intensive care unit.  She sustained severe multiple leg and foot fractures, along with internal injuries and has thus far undergone seven surgeries.  On October 25, Cathy was moved to York’s WellSpan Surgery and Rehabilitation Hospital where she is currently receiving intensive daily physical therapy.  Cathy will soon be released from the rehabilitation hospital to continue her recovery and physical therapy sessions at home.  

Because of this life-changing event, Cathy will be unable to return to her job for an undetermined length of time. It appears that she may be non-ambulatory for months ahead. During her recovery, her husband Joel will be her full-time caregiver.  Their dual lost income, combined with substantial ongoing medical expenses, installing a ramp, and other modifications to allow for her to move back home, present a substantial hardship.   

Cathy has faced this challenge with grace and determination.
