Ladakh Disability & Rehabilitation Train

Donation protected
The Ladakh Disability and Rehabilitation Training Project (LDRT) is a partnership-training program between Canadian health professionals and local government medical staff in Ladakh, a region of northwestern India in the state of Jammu & Kashmir established to build capacity in neurodevelopmental disability assessment and treatment.

Since its inception in 2005, the project has provided training, undertaken needs assessments, raised community awareness and assisted Ladakhis with disabilities.

Currently, the LDRT's Canadian team provides training to rehabiliation staff and families in Ladakh every spring and summer, while local staff operates the unit independently during the winter months.

The pediatric unit is funded entirely by the local government, including the salaries of the Ladakhi staff. Canadian health professionals volunteer their time to travel to India to particpate in the training project. Related travel expenses are covered through fundraising, grants and private donations.  This fundraising campaign is to cover in country transporation expenses for this year's team.
