Jay's Medical Fund

My son Jay has chronic Type 1 diabetes. He was diagnosed about 5 years ago, and has not been regulated since this time. His blood glucose level typically runs very high in the 400s-600s+, which affects his social-emotional well-being, and is not good for his internal organs. We have experienced DKA to the point where doctors were amazed to see such numbers on a live person. The endocrinologist has referred us to a chronic diabetic residential treatment program at Cumberland Children's Hospital in Virginia, so they can help Jay get his blood sugar regulated and learn better ways to manage his diabetes. This facility costs $1100 per day, and the minimum stay is 2-3 months. Blue Cross Blue Shield has denied any payment for these services, which the endocrinologist has deemed medically necessary.
