Giving Back in Guatemala

Hello,
I hope this letter finds you well. As most of you know, I have spent the last three years living and working in Minneapolis. During that time, God has blessed me with the time and energy to give back to my community in many ways: serving as a "Big" in Big Brothers Big Sisters, leading an eMentor program for local area high schools, and mentoring multiple students at the University of Minnesota. As I have continued to find more time to give back to my community, I have looked for new ways in which God is calling me to serve.
This June, I will be heading to Guatemala to volunteer with Maximo Nivel for one week. Maximo is a non-profit based in an organic coffee farming community outside of Guatemala City. Maximo's focus is to help create sustainable agriculture and economic development in Guatemala. All profits from the coffee venture are currently being used to build a school for the community's local youth.
My days will be spent helping meet the everyday needs of the farm: harvesting and processing coffee plants, packaging and marketing coffee products, assisting with sales, and helping build the local school. I will stay with a family near the 7 acre farm and will have the opportunity to participate in and be a part of their day to day lives. The experience would not be complete without attending worship and prayer the day I arrive. Lucky me!
As a local volunteer in Minneapolis, I am able give my time and skills to help those in need with little additional expense. However, volunteer opportunities abroad require additional means. Travel expenses, home stay accommodations, and fees for the non-profit's staff help make opportunities to volunteer abroad a reality. I feel ready to take this next step in giving back and as friends and family, I hope you may find it in your hearts to help me raise the funds needed for this journey. My goal is to raise $1,900. If you are not able to help me financially, please raise me up in your prayers! I will need all of God's strength and wisdom as I share my time and God's love this summer.
