Andrew Wells at St. Joseph's Orphanage

Dear Friends and Family,
I will be spending the next six months living and volunteering for Unite the World with Africa at the St. Joseph's Orphanage, which is located in a remote village outside of Arusha, Tanzania. The orphanage was founded by Sister Crispina Mnate in 2000, when she opened up her house to five boys, all of whom lived in one room and slept in one bed because there was no money for anything else. Over the years Sr. Crispina has managed to purchase land, build two dormitories and a dining hall, and even open a nursery school on site to educate the local communities' youngest children. St. Joseph's is now home to 43 orphans between the ages of 3 and 23.
While living at the orphanage, some of my jobs and duties will include:
-Giving English lessons and helping the children with other school assignments
-Helping the older students with job placements to support their independence
-Engaging the children in games, sports and musical activites
-Fostering and encouraging any individual interests and talents demonstrated by the children
-Spearheading a new leadership and healthy living curriculum for Unite
-In addition, many of these children and young adults do not have medical records and have never had the opportunity to visit a doctor; therefore, I will work on developing a health record-keeping system and ensuring their proper care with health assessments by visiting Unite medical professionals and local doctors.
-These are a few of my goals for the time being, but I am confident that when I arrive and as time passes, my duties will grow in scope and nature.
Although I am extremely excited about the upcoming adventure and the work I will be doing to improve the lives of these children, St. Joseph's does not have the funds to hire me nor to freely house or feed me. So here's where I need your help. To cover my costs of serving at the St. Joseph's Orphanage for 23 weeks - or 161 days - I need to raise $5,000 (Approx: $31 a day). I would greatly appreciate a donation of $31 from you, as this small amount would allow me work on helping the lives of the children at the orphanage for one day. Of course, all donations are appreciated and for the next few weeks, I am free to do any odd jobs that you may need in the area. Because I am not going through a large organization, all proceeds will go directly to St. Joseph's and will have a direct impact in improving the lives of the children living there, something few charitable and volunteer organizations can claim. In return, I promise my hardest work and deepest dedication to these children. I will also send back lots of images and news updates from the field. Hopefully this will be an adventure embark on together.
