I Need A Seizure Alert Dog
Donation protected
I am raising money for obtaining a seizure alert dog. I have epilepsy and Neurocardiogenic syncope. Both conditions cause me to lose consciousness. I am a mother of three wonderful boys and wife to a US Army soldier. I am having episodes from one, if not both, conditions on a daily basis. The alert dog would greatly improve my quality of life by giving me someone to be with me all the time. My doctor is concerned about my being alone when the children are at school and my husband is at work.
I would like to maintain my independence as much as possible. The dog would help with this by sensing the chemical changes in my body helping me manage my episodes. The alert will give me time to get to a safe place and also call for help before I lose consciousness.
The money collected will go towards acquiring the dog and training it. Service dogs must be neutered or spayed and fully vetted prior to starting their training. The cost of that is around $300. The remaining $5000 will go towards training the dog. The dog must learn specific cues to alert me to my episodes, along with proper public behavior and good canine manners. I will also be learning to handle the dog. During the training I will also learn the rules and laws associated with owning a service animal.
A service dog will give my family peace of mind knowing I am not alone. I will have help when I need it most. I will be able to confidently complete life's normal tasks. I wont be afraid of going to the store on my own or the other things that mothers and wives do daily.
