Lynn\'s 50th Birthday Brain Cancer Memorial

Just over five years ago we were forced to say goodbye to our mom, Lynn Hoffman Witter, who was called home to Heaven after a lengthy battle with brain cancer. November 5 would have been her 50th Birthday, and to honor her memory, we are trying to raise enough money to purchase a memorial in her name at Roswell Park Cancer Institute in Buffalo, NY - the treatment facility that kept her cancer at bay for seven precious years. We can\'t think of a better tribute on her 50th than to give back to the kind and talented people at RPCI and to help contribute to the fight against cancer.

Brief excerpt from the eulogy I gave at her funeral (8/2006)

\"Neither death nor cancer for that matter could ever have claimed victory over my mom.

Her restless effort to persevere and stubborn refusal to succumb to the daunting reality of what might lie waiting around the corner allowed her to get through each day, not as a victim of her illness, but as a survivor who never let that illness take away her smile.

Most people don\'t know that my mom was sick for seven years or that she willingly put herself through four surgeries, at least 100 radiation treatments, and months and months of chemotherapy. Why? Because obstacles the size of mountains were just "˜bumps in the road' to my mom. Before she would go into surgery, she would have a look of worry in her eye, and I'd ask, "˜What's wrong mom?' and she'd say back, "˜Well I was just wondering if my hair and makeup will hold up through surgery.' :And it always did.\"
