THANK YOU IN ADVANCE:
Thank you for taking out the time to visit my page. Please take a moment and read a bit about me and the amazing opportunity I've been afforded. Any monetary support is welcomed. I hope this opportunity is as encouraging to you as it is to me.
I am currently a graduate student at Texas A&M University pursuing a Master's of Science in Educational Psychology with an emphasis in Creativity, Cognition, Curriculum and Instruction. After graduating from A&M in 2011 with a Bachelor's in Psychology and a minor in Africana Studies I worked as a College Advisor for two years at a high school in Houston, TX before returning to school.
I was personally invited by my professor to attend a 2-week study abroad trip to Italy, Spain and Portugal that focuses on urban education in various cities in these countries. We will participate in service projects at day care centers/camps and women shelters; hear lectures and tour the University of Perugia, Spain University and Se Cathedral University; and visit monumental sites such as the Sistine Chapel, the Colosseum, the Royal Palace in Spain and more. The trip is considered a Contemporary Visual Culture course and is worth 3 credit hours towards my degree.
While I was excited and honored for the invitation, I also realized that it came late in the planning process. Many students begin studying their host countries and applying for funding a year in advance. I have less than two months. Cost of the study abroad trip is $5,557 and includes travel, hotel accommodations, program fees, tours & excursions, activities and travel agency expenses. In addition to these cost I still have to pay tuition & fees as well as have money for meals and personal expenses.
SO WHY GO?
When deciding if I would accept the invitation I automatically made a mental list of why I shouldn't go: money, work schedule, conflicting obligations, leaving home. Then I thought of two good reasons that trumped all the others. First, as a young professional in graduate school I was seeking out opportunities to push me to the next level as well as expand my experience and thinking. I can't think of a better opportunity then this trip to accomplish that goal. Second and most important is God will provide. I feel that this is something that God has set in my path for a reason and I am standing on faith that He will supply all my needs. Not only is this trip fulfilling my personal desires and educational requirements, it is also pushing me to test my faith.
Again, I thank you in advance for your support. Note that 5% of your donation goes to the GoFundMe agency.
