My name is Wanda and I need your help. Just over a year ago my life changed forever.
In April 2013, I was diagnosed with a Solitary Bone Plasmacytoma in my jawbone. Due to my illness, I had 20 sessions of radiation therapy. Unfortunately, a Pet Scan performed on January 2014 showed lesions in my pelvic bone, ribs, spine and sternum. Because of the multiple lesions, I was diagnosed with Multiple Myeloma, an incurable but treatable form of cancer. Since January 2014 I have completed 4 cycles of chemotherapy with two different cancer treatment drugs.
Now it's time for my next step, a Stem Cell Transplant. Even though this transplant will not cure my Multiple Myeloma, it will improve my quality of life, and it will give me the opportunity to live longer.
My transplant process is scheduled to begin in May 26, 2014. For this process I will have to take at least three months off from work. I also would have to stay close to Moffitt Cancer Center in Tampa for at least three weeks. Each day I would go to the bone marrow transplant clinic to monitor and treat the side effects of the transplant process.
I have worked all of my life and I'm fortunate to have a health insurance plan with my employer. But there are non-covered expenses that I need help with, like lodging, insurance co-pays, medications, travel expenses and additional treatments. So far, it is calculated that the total cost of my treatments will be over $200,000.
Since last year I have been using my savings to pay for the expenses not covered by my health insurance, and money is getting tight. I would be grateful for anything you can contribute. If you are unable to donate, please leave me a message of encouragement and support. It's very important to me.
Certainly my world has been shaken. Now, I'm in a constant battle against the disease, symptoms, treatment, decision-making, medications, side effect, lack of sleep, stress and financial responsibilities. It's all good. Life is good and I will enjoy every second of it.
Remember when you feel like giving up, reach deep inside of you, and you will find that you are much stronger than you think.
