Diabetic assistant dog

Donation protected

I am Noah. I have had diabetes for 6 years now. I was 6 years old when I got diabetes. In the beginning I ate a lot but I just got skinnier. We tried eating a lot of sweet foods like pancakes. It felt like the more I was eating the skinnier I got. We didn’t know what was wrong. A long time ago my dad had a friend and she had diabetes type 1 and went through the same process, so he thought maybe I had that too. After I did not get better and got even more skinny we went to the doctor because my parents were getting really worried. We found out my dad was right. At first, I did not know what was going on. I asked my parents but they didn't know in the beginning. A few days after I would leave the hospital they told me, and  doctors told me what I had to do such as, measure my blood sugar and take injections every morning and evening and whenever I ate carbohydrates or sugars. It took a very long time to adjust to having to always do things like, measure my blood sugar all the time. We always have to think before I eat, if I do something sporty or not after, because then the insulin injections change. We don't always get it right, so then I can go low. I don't like to feel low, because I feel dizzy and sometimes it feels like I can't control my body, it feels like I will disappear or melt. Being high is also not good, it is dangerous for my nerves and some organs and also it makes me sometimes aggressive. We have figured out a lot about my body and food, but now I am getting older and it is very hard in puberty to know what your body will do. The hormones will affect your blood sugar levels and you don't know when or why. That is why we really want to get an assistant dog to help us. The dogs are amazing, they can smell even before I go low that it will happen, and he will do a special sign and let us know. It is especially hard in the night, and if I have a dog he will sleep with me and take care of me. This dog is specially trained for a long time and very expensive. My mom and dad are paying for half of it, But I think it is important that I also try to help, . If you can, please help me get a dog, even if it is a little bit it will be good, and I will be very happy to have extra help with my diabetes!

The dog is very expensive because the training is so long. It costs 25.000 Euros, so I am trying to help pay this way. The great thing is he will be able to:

-show me if my blood-sugar will go high
-show me if my blood-sugar goes low
-bring me my measuring kit
-will alert my parents if I am unconscious and get help

Thank you for reading this and I hope you can help me,

Noah
