Homeschoolers Going to NHD

Donation protected

We are going to DC! But we need your help. Here's the story:

On May 3rd, 2014, three close friends and homeschoolers, Ezekiel, Kylie, and Anna placed 2nd of six finalists in the Washington State History Day competition for Senior Group Documentary. Their documentary was titled "Freedom Denied" and was based on the injustice of the Japanese Internment Camps during World War II.

Watch full documentary below.

They followed the National History Day (NHD) theme Rights and Responsibilities and showed both good examples and bad of how people reacted in this unfortunate time in American history.

This award gives them the honor of competing at the national level in Washington D.C in June. This is an incredible opportunity that they don't want to miss!

It is approximately $1000 a person to make the trip (3 students, 2 chaperones) and since we are homeschoolers we have no school backing us. Ezekiel, Kylie and Anna will be raising the money themselves from a "grass roots" effort. This site is only one aspect of the fundraising; they will also be writing to museums, organizations, schools, and interviewees that they used for research to ask for sponsorship. It is an honor to place within the top two for the whole state of Washington and hopefully these individuals and organizations will want to be a part of this rewarding experience.

Here is what the students had to say about it all!

All: We are all super excited to go to D.C.!!!

Kylie: We had a lot of fun making the documentary and doing the interviews, we actually got to meet a 442 veteran and a former internee, making this documentary took us 8 months or more, and we appreciate every person who gives us support and stands behind us and our history project, it means a lot that people believe in us.

Anna: We had a lot of beneficial experiences while doing this documentary such as learning teamwork and also of course all the historical learning experiences, our interviewees were a huuuge part of our documentary and the judges were very impressed by our number of interviews, we are grateful for the constant support from our families and friends, and special thanks to my Granny.

Ezekiel: Ditto to what Kylie and Anna said!!
