Surgery for Lil' Bit

Donation protected

Hero(s) needed: Our group was contacted by a local veteran whose emotional support dog, Lil' Bit, was hit by a car on Sunday evening. Lil' Bit has a broken pelvis and needs surgery ASAP. The surgery needs to happen no later than Monday, May 5 for it to be a success.

The wonderful folks at The Pet Doctor have been helping Lil' Bit, but more help is needed. The clinic is willing to work with Lil' Bit's human, Ray, by donating services and working out a payment plan but they don't have a surgeon that is able to perform the surgery before Monday's deadline. Summit Veterinary Hospital is able to do the surgery immediately but they require $5,000.00 payment in advance which is just not doable for Ray.

I talked with Ray at length today and his heart is breaking, and Lil' Bit is in pain even with massive doses of pain meds on board. Ray has been on several tours to Iraq and Afghanistan and suffers from severe PTSD. He said Lil' Bit is the only reason he is still here.

The accident happened because Ray's landlord was removing trees on the fence line which caused part of the fence to break. Lil' Bit was outside playing with Ray's child when he noticed a neighbor walking by. He got excited and discovered the break in the fence. This happened quickly as most accidents do, and before Lil' Bit could be stopped he ran into the street and was hit. Sadly the driver didn't stop after the dog was struck so Ray's son ran out in the middle of the street and picked him up just before he was hit again by another car.

The Pet Doctor staff has kindly volunteered to manage donations in addition to hosting any surgeon who is willing to perform the surgery for Lil' Bit. And, they are not attached to providing his care -- they will give all of the donations to any veterinary clinic that will help the dog. If you know of a veterinarian who'd be willing to take this on, or if you want to donate to help this little dog and his veteran, please contact The Pet Doctor @ (253) [phone redacted] or donate through this campaign.

The Humane Society of the United States has agreed to donate $500.00 towards Lil' Bit's care. So, this is a start. Sadly, veterans with PTSD tend to be isolated and Ray falls into this category. He doesn't have much social support in his life and he needs support now more than ever.

We all need help once in awhile. I've never met, Ray, in person but he sure seems like a sweet guy. He's been serving our country for 4 years - this makes him family, a friend and a person that is most certainly deserving of a helping hand.

Please join me in supporting Ray and his dear friend, Lil' Bit. Small donations count - if we all chip in a little bit, we can do this!  And, WE ONLY HAVE UNTIL MONDAY TO MAKE THIS HAPPEN.
