Help Tanya Rebuild Her Home!

Donation protected
On Monday, February 15th, at around 2:30am, our power went out, along with the other homes in our area. We had heard that there may be rolling blackouts, but as the hours ticked by and the power stayed off, the temperature inside of our house continued to plummet. By midday it became obvious that there was no relief in sight, and many of us whose gas fireplaces were previously only used for ambience turned to using them as sources of much-needed warmth. That idea worked out nicely for most, but for my next door neighbor, Tanya, it cost her a home.

The fire marshal suspects that the cold metal of the exhaust tube running through the attic split due to the sudden heat of the fireplace. A fire started in the attic, and by the time Tanya found out, it was too late - her house was already doomed. Tanya was able to escape with her son, her four dogs, and a computer for work. Everything else in the house was lost.

Like many Texans, I've suffered through the cold this week and struggled to keep my family safe and warm. Now it's Friday. My power is on, heat is running, water is flowing and cleared for drinking. Everything is back to normal, but for Tanya, "normal" is a long way away. While my personal losses include a refrigerator full of food and two days of PTO, Tanya lost a home. Let's pull together to get this house rebuilt by helping to cover the cost of her insurance deductable!

The goal is $7600 which covers her $7380 deductable plus 2.9% in GoFundMe's fees. Let's get this raised in 30 days so that Tanya can get the insurance claim moving and the home rebuilding underway.
