Help Mom Walk Again

Donation protected
On June 17, 2018, our 54-year-old Mom, Victoria Braaten fell deathly ill to severe infections that were further complicated by E-coli and diabetes. By 7:45 a.m. Monday morning all of my brothers and sisters received a phone call from our Dad, a man we rarely, if ever, heard or saw cry. The doctors said the chances of her survival were slim, she is in septic shock, they expected the worst. They recommended he needed to call everyone to see her. We arrived, sat by her side and massaged her fingers and toes to keep as much blood circulating as possible. After the most heart wrenching, emotional, and sleep deprived week of our lives, the doctors said her chances of survival significantly improved. In their own words, her slow improvement was "amazing."  The doctors, nurses and support staff at Benefis hospital saved her life for which we are forever grateful.  We also like to think our love, our voices, our presence helped her to keep fighting and to stay with us. She was in the hospital for over a month. She was transitioned to an in-patient physical therapy rehab center and the insurance company is saying they will only cover one more week. Her toes were all amputated and she still has open wounds to the bone on both feet. She will be in a wheelchair for an indeterminate amount of time. With over a month-long hospital stay and the amount of care my Mom continues to need in rehab the financial struggle will be rough. The house needs work to accommodate a wheelchair and her long healing time will include regular follow-ups, wound dressing changes, and physical therapy. We understand the bills will continue to stack up and we don't want that burden to affect her healing time. We thank everyone for the outpouring of love and prayers. If you are unable to donate, we understand and hope that you can share this link. Much appreciation, love, and peace in your life. Thank you.
