8th Annual Make Music Portland

Donation protected
Make Music Day has been established as a celebration across the United States to take place on June 21st, the summer solstice. This event has grown out of the international movement Fête de la Musique, after enormous success in France and abroad. The U.S. has many notable and well-established branches of Make Music to coordinate the day-long free celebration, which encourages all genres, abilities, and ages of music amateurs and professionals to fill the streets with sounds and community. When Portland, Maine joined the movement in 2013, there were roughly 8 other North American cities participating; this past year, more than 80 North American cities hosted Make Music Day celebrations.

Make Music Portland’s goal is to provide an open, inclusive opportunity for Maine musicians to showcase their talents, and for non-musicians to engage in musical learning opportunities, all while celebrating our community. One of the best parts about the celebration is that participation is open to anyone and everyone; whether you make music, listen to music, or just enjoy it.
In collaboration with local organizations such as 317 Main Community Music Center, Friends of Congress Square Park, FLUKES, Portland Ukulele Social Club, and Ukuleles Heal the World, we have been able to expand our play-a-long events to involve more of the community. Last year we had nine participatory events including Singing in the Shower, an Instrument Petting Zoo, free Ukulele lessons, and an Instrument Building Garden where kids (and adults) could make musical instruments out of recycled materials.
Make Music Portland is produced and funded by an all-volunteer team, out of a love for the city, the people, the local sounds, and a passion for bringing everyone together through the universal language of music.  We hope you will consider donating to help cover the costs of producing and promoting this fun, inclusive community event!

Funds raised will help cover:
-event insurance ($525)
-public space usage permits/concert/vendor permits ($950)
-parking permits (~$25)
-water & snacks for volunteers (~$25-$40)
-Make Music Alliance membership ($325 - this gets us free harmonicas, national promotion, drum sticks, etc.)

Any additional funds will help cover marketing materials.
