Hi everyone, Tom Bob here. I never thought I’d be saying this but ...
I'M GOING TO INDIA AND I NEED YOUR HELP TO DO IT!
Apparently Spirit planted this seed inside me quite some time ago, but it didn’t start sprouting until now. A few months back, during a visioning workshop at Bodhi Spiritual Center, I was working on my vision board … flipping through magazine after magazine searching for those words, phrases and images that inspired and sparked something in me, when I came across an image with the words “Passage to India.” At the time, I shouted out to the others “Anyone have a heart for India? I’ve got something for your vision board.” After about three or four shout-outs to the room, there were no takers. I thought “hmmm, maybe it’s for me.” So I very matter of factly pasted the image on my own board and never gave it another thought … until recently. Through a series of rather serendipitous events, I’ve been personally invited by a master teacher at the One World Academy in Chennai, India to participate in an intensive program called “Freedom in Living.”
Many of you may know the rather colorful history of my journey of addiction and compulsive behaviors as well as my story of hope and recovery. One of the gifts of my recovery is my formal licensing as a Spiritual Counselor as well as my extensive training in addictive and compulsive behaviors. It’s my aim to pay forward the freedom that has been afforded me in my sobriety. In my counseling practice I certainly see folks from all walks of life, but supporting others who are challenged with addiction is definitely my area of expertise and passion. It’s truly why I do what I do. And to that end, I have what I call, my “spiritual toolbox” that I draw from whenever I sit with someone in session and witness their story. As a seeker of Truth, I continually look for new tools to put into that spiritual toolbox - sacred tools that affirm healing and wholeness in both the individuals that sit before me as well as myself. The thing is, in order for it to actually become a tool to give to someone, I must learn how to use it myself. That’s why I'm completely committed to my own therapeutic journey of self-discovery and expanding my consciousness and container for good. This brings me to the teachings in India.
The “Freedom in Living” course addresses the desires to be heard, accepted and supported in our innermost aspirations. It speaks to the struggles of miscommunication and the striving to see eye to eye. It purposes to shine the light of Truth on loss, loneliness, longing and disappointment. I know that on some level these things still exist inside me and I feel it is time to deal with these aspects of myself on a deeper and more profound level. And what I know about addiction and recovery is that at the end of the day, when you take away the drink or drug or whatever behavior, we’ve all got those same issues and stinking thinking. We all become bound by our thinking and become our “issue.” And I am certainly no exception.
The good news is that “Freedom in Living” does not stop with just finding solutions to your problems. It is about creating a new vision, a new dimension, and a revolution in the entirety of your thinking. Imagine if I could bring this way of being into my practice as a counselor! So my goal is to take in these teachings and sacred tools, learn and apply them to my life and then carry the message on to others who cross my path whether it be in a counseling session or over a cup of coffee.
So friends, here’s the ask. Will you support me in fulfilling my personal mission of living in complete freedom? I need your financial support as well as your prayer support to send me to India.
