My mother with the yellow eyes

My Mother with the Yellow Eyes:
The person that I hold close to my heart is now on the verge of dying. She has contributed to the virtues of my life in exceptional ways. The woman whom with me shares the same blood. The substitute female figure of a mother and a father to anyone who does not have the presence of theirs. I mention a father because she took that role when my father passed away three years before. She is the one who has always held my hand through the thick and thin. There are not sufficient words to explain how this woman is a living miracle. This woman is my mother, Sara Mayoral.
For the past four years, Sclerosis Cholangitis, which is the thickening of the liver organ due to an excessive production of fibrous interstitial tissue has enthralled over her. The only remedy is a liver transplant. I have learned the true definition of what it is to truly have patience, hope, and faith. Multiple nights have been spent in the ER waiting for the doctors to tell us if she will survive this obstacle or not. All my faith and trust has been put upon the doctor's hands above. Each tick of the clock for the past six years has seemed eternal.
Let me begin by explaining where the root of this miracle started. It has been approximately 2,245 days since our lives as a family took an entire U turn from the life we were accustomed to. She is the person that never gave time to treat herself because she would rather help others. She began to feel internal abdominal pains one day. As the pain began to be more constant she decided to go to the doctor and it was then when they told her that she had been diagnosed with gallbladder stones. Due to the economic recession that was occurring Sara was not financially stable to treat herself to the surgery.
After months of withholding the internal pain she could not bear the pain much longer and headed to the local hospital emergency room where she was turned back around and sent home due to them telling her that she needed a doctor's referral notice. Two days later she could not hold it any longer and went to another hospital in the outskirts of town. It was then on October 20, 2008 when her life changed. Her body was not sufficiently stable to accept the basic laser operation that would dissolve the stones. There was no other option but to do a full on body cut surgery. Unfortunately the outcome of her getting better within the days was not what we received rather she began to worsen as the days passed. Since the second she came out of the surgery she began to feel an internal itchiness discomfort all throughout her body. It was something that never in her life had she felt before.
As the days and months began to pass the itchiness would not go away rather more she developed Jaundice which is the yellowing of the skin color and eyes. Little by little within the six years her body organs have begun to deteriorate. Nobody ever explained to her what was it that was happening. On her regular doctor visits not even they could tell her what was it was that she had.
It was a couple of months later when she traveled to Mexico to see one of the greatest liver transplant doctors of the country. As he observed her he came to the conclusion that when the gallbladder surgery had been done, there is an acid that is present to spill within the organs if the procedure is not done correctly. In Sara's case that was what had happened. Every doctor runs the risk of spilling that acid which will harm the organs it touches. After two years of waiting the doctors informed her that the only way to resolve the itchiness symptom was to have an organ donor. Life on the daily basis consist of her liver inflaming to where you can perfectly see the outline of her organ in the abdominal part of her body. The color of her eyes have lost the white outer layer and turned yellow. Her skin has lost its brown glow and is dark. Marked by scars that she has made to herself because of the intensity of the itchiness symptom. That is only the beginning.
Many treatments have been done on her. In the fact that doctors have never seen this source of reaction from the body. What happened is that the gallbladder acid harmed her bile ducts causing them to clog the blood that trespasses through it. Not allowing the cleansing procedure to occur rather that is what causes the itchiness within her body. Aside of 30 different medications, dialysis for the liver, one of the treatments done on her multiple times was when the doctors would put stents within the bile ducts to allow the blood flow to be cleansed. Unfortunately the last time this was done was when one of the stents managed to displace itself and perforate her intestine. As she was rushed into the operation room the surgeon walked out and informed us that the procedure he was going to perform was really dangerous. There was a 90% chance that she could die yet he was going to take the risk. When she came out of the surgery she had a cut from the beginning of the abdomen all the way down to her waistline. Yet that managed to change nothing.
Monthly MRI procedures and blood test samples are what every appointment consisted of. Until alas the doctors informed her that the chances that she would receive an organ donor were not high enough for her so that she rather look for it somewhere else. That is what she did. She heard of the Jackson Memorial Hospital in Miami, Florida that is specialized in liver transplants. She left her home, and family in San Diego, California February 14, 1014 and is now residing in Miami, Florida on the Miami's Transplant Institute waiting list with the hope that one day there will be a fit donor whose liver matches the one she is seeking. She has been hospitalized six times here in Miami, Fl since February 2014. As a family we have managed to fight this battle. The woman whom was always a leader has finally given up her spot. That hardworking woman can barely get out of bed each morning to kiss me good-bye as I head out for work. As I return back at the end of the day I find her in the same place I left her. She has begun to develop much more severe symptoms such as memory loss. We cannot have a normal conversation without her asking once more what we had addressed a few seconds ago. Now she is embarrassed to even go out in public because of how swollen her abdomen is. The Sclera portion of her eyes is immensely yellow. Once a healthy and strong woman now skips meals and refuses to eat. One of the virtues she still yet possess is her faith that is put in the hands on the father above. The delicate, fragile look on her face and the desire to live have pushed me to see life in a different perspective. From the angle less looked from. And I hope to hold her hand through the beginning of this journey, the same as how she has held the hands of many including myself. And I know that this obstacle has only made us stronger as a family and it is once more a proof that miracles still exist.
