Hope for my Dad

Donation protected

One year ago today, my father walked into the hospital to have an aortic aneurysm repaired.  This photo is the last one we have of him standing.  During the surgery he lost blood flow to his spinal cord and awoke paralyzed from the chest down.  There was a 5% chance of this complication occurring.  We were all devastated by this outcome and his recovery has been long and hard and painstakingly slow.
Since that day, he has had many setbacks including a broken femur, bleeding into his groin, and a large blood clot in his leg.

My father, David Zeiter, is a 67-year old veteran who served during the Vietnam War.  He has been married to my mother for over 40 years.  He has worked his entire life to provide for us, putting all three of us through college.  Before the surgery he lived a very active, vibrant life.  He spent a lot of time doing prison ministries with the Gideon International group.  He has 5 grandchildren between the ages of 3 months and 6 years old and is unable to see them as often as he would like.  This is due to his inability to transfer from his wheelchair into a normal vehicle due to the trauma to his legs.   He has been hospitalized multiple times as a result of that trauma.

Because of this recurring trauma we are in dire need of a wheelchair van.   This would give him the freedom to live a normal life, visit family and friends, go to church, or even just go to the grocery store with my mom.

To keep him in their home we also need an electric lift so my mother can care for him without injuring herself.  She has had several back surgeries and is unable to properly move him around.  She has cared for him mostly on her own since he came home from the rehabilition hospital.  It has taken a toll on her back and increased her chronic pain from trying to lift him from the wheelchair to the bed.

Anything we receive would go towards the cost of a wheelchair van and in-home mobility equipment such as an electric lift.  Our family's financial situation has been severely affected due to the costs of constant medical care, rehabilitation, some of the modifications that have been necessary to the home, as well as some home health care expenses.
If you feel led to give we would greatly appreciate your help. Thank you for all your support.
