Dear friends, family, & other folks,
Here we are, Mary and John, humbly asking for help with an issue that is very close to our hearts and minds. Both of us would like to be parents. We have gone back and forth, and around and around with the topic since our marriage almost 5 years ago. After some gruelling visits with the fertility clinic, we discovered that my ovaries are done producing viable eggs. We considered a donor egg possibility, but it just never felt quite right. We considered fostering, but the idea of getting attached and then letting go is not for us. We would like to adopt a child. We and many of our closest friends believe we will make great parents. Even though we are a little older, we are full of energy. We have much love and creativity to offer. We think lifting a child out of an orphanage and filling his or her life with comfort and kindess is one of the best things we can do in our situation. We get by okay, we have a small house, and some people may think we are way out of our minds, but we have love and we do have the space to make this happen.
What some people may not know about me is that I lost a son, Jaron, to a still birth in 1997. I have always felt a strong pull and desire to be a mom. When my nephew Josiah was born, I lived upstairs from him for 5 years. I felt bonded with him and when he passed away in 2008, I was devastated once again. John also lost 2 chances for children in his previous marriage. We have children that I teach in and out of the house all of the time, but the more we think about it, we want to be called "mama and papa" by one special little someone.
We can make this family work, but we need help with the initial cost of the paperwork for the adoption, the lawyer's fees, and the other fees that go into adoption, as well as the flight costs. We can let you all know more about the story as it progresses, but right now, we are looking for sponsers and people who believe in us and believe that we can do this.
