Broadway-Bound and We Need YOUR Help!

After 15 weeks of rehearsing, the students of PS 231K in Brooklyn are only 5 weeks away from performing a scene from their musical "The Aristocats" on a Broadway stage!  My colleagues and I must raise $1,000 in order to purchase remaining set supplies (paint, drop cloths, tape), reserve a charter bus to get us to Broadway, and provide a celebratory and well-deserving Cast Party at the end of the year!

The project:
PS 231K was one of five schools selected out of 100's in NYC to participate in "Disney's Musicals in the Schools."  It's a highly selective initiative that helps develop musical theater programs in NYC public schools.  Our students have been working with two Disney teaching artists to learn the choreography and lines for the musical, "The Aristocats." We will have three performances at our school and get to participate in a "Student Share" on Broadway where we perform one scene from our musical.

The students:
We are a District 75 school and our students are students with autism, cognitive impairment, and emotional behavior disorder.  Through this Disney experience, the 231K staff has been continually impressed with our students' focus, interest in performing, ability to memorize lines and choreography, and more.  Getting to perform on a Broadway stage will be the pinnacle of this entire experience!
