We've had a lot of friends and family approach us about helping fund our upcoming trip to Cannes. We've decided to set up this page for our crowdfunding effort. Below is the background on the trip, along with our goals and hopes and dreams. Thank you so much for your interest and support!
Matt and Stacee are going to Cannes!
We're thrilled that our short film, ONCE A LOSER has been selected to screen at Cannes, the biggest and most prestigious film festival in the world! ONCE A LOSER was our entry in the 2013 New York 48 Hour Film Festival, where it swept the major awards: Best Film, Directing, Writing, Ensemble Cast, Score, and Audience Favorite. Not bad for two days of sleep-deprived, caffeine-fueled madness!
After also winning Best Comedy in the Tiny Film Festival, and screening in New Orleans at the international Filmapalooza film festival, it was picked to screen at Cannes as part of the Short Film Corner.
This is a HUGE opportunity for exposure on the biggest movie stage in the world, plus a chance to meet and network with film professionals from every corner of the globe. This trip could contain that career-making connection that every filmmaker needs. If you love Matt's work, this could be a big moment for him to step up in the film world.
We're treating this as a professional opportunity, and I'm already working day and night preparing a stack of work to showcase there, including my indie TV pilot THE SPIRIT SEEKER. Additionally, we've arranged our trip so I can pitch a short film to the cable channel ShortsTV, with the winning films receiving 5000 Euros in funding.
But - there's one catch. We don't know if you know this shocking fact, but:
Cannes is a millionaire's playground.
It's true. Steady yourself, and look at the evidence: It's the South of France. People use small yachts to get to their bigger yachts. American starlets routinely marry princes in this neck of the woods. They light their e-cigarettes with e-Euros.
This is very expensive trip that happened very last minute for us - we found out about one month before the festival - and it's going to hurt our bank accounts.
Luckily for us, many of our wonderful friends have offered to donate towards our expenses for this once-in-a-lifetime event. Many of them nudged us to start a crowdfunding campaign. And here it is! Your donation will help us get the most out of this amazing professional opportunity.
We have been touched by the offers for support we've received so far, and count ourselves blessed for having such wonderful friends and family. We'll also be coming up with fun and possibly unusual rewards for your help as our campaign develops. We're creative, weird people, and we'll cook up something good for you.
