Hi family and friends. Meet Cyara (CeCe) Thompson, who is a junior, majoring in Vocal and Jazz at SCPA (where Joe attends). CeCe is planning to be accepted to and attend Berklee College of Music after she graduates in May, 2015. She is hoping to attend the Berklee 5-Week Summer Jazz Program this summer. The cost of the 5-Week Summer Jazz Program and Vocal summit is over $9,000.00. At the end of the program, she will be offered a free audition for placement at the college after high school graduation. This special free audition is not offered to non-summer program students.
Why am I reaching out to you for CeCe? We met CeCe and her mother, Angela shortly after we arrived in Cincinnati. They welcomed Joe into the JAZPEL family of singers and musicians. We were amazed at the amount of giving and caring Angela did for others in her community and for the school. In June of last year, Angie was hit by a serious auto immune disease. This left her disabled on multiple levels "“ unable to walk and wheelchair bound, inconsistent blindness, muscle disease, heart issues, tongue enlargement issues, to the point she was placed on long term disability.
Angie (a single mother) cares for CeCe, and her older brother, CJ, who is a senior at another school. Angie's mother has moved in from Pennsylvania to help with the household since Angie is disabled. There is no income in this home. Only long term disability checks, which we all know do not pay for all the costs of housing and many other necessities.
CeCe is an excellent student and an extremely talented singer! She is a young teen, but gives a presence of authority and compassion! She inspires me and is a model teen in our community. I feel so fortunate that Joe is her friend. He looks up to CeCe. Mike and I call CeCe and Angie our Angels, as they have given us so much love and support. They are our Ohio family.
I am hoping that you can help me help CeCe to prepare for college by assisting in the costs for the Berklee Summer Jazz Programs. Berklee gave her a $1,000 scholarship. We are also planning a fundraising event in which friends will entertain with their talents. But I know this will not be enough to cover costs for Berklee. If funding support cannot be found, CeCe will be unable to attend, and will have a much less chance of having an opportunity to receive a larger scholarship if accepted into the college. Many SCPA students have attended, auditioned, and been accepted with scholarships.

So many of us are fortunate to send our children to excellent universities without the worry of how will we pay for the tuition? Wouldn't it be great to know you helped a child without those privileges?
