Medical Expenses

In October of 2012, Mona Hebert was involved in a horrible motorcycle accident that almost claimed her life.  She was transported to New Orleans, where she would begin her road to recovery. In the accident Mona was thrown more than 40 feet and landed on the left side of her body.  Her injuries included pneumothorax, spleen laceration, multiple rib fractures, bladder injury, open femur fracture, closed fibula fracture, closed monteggia fracture dislocation, pelvic ring ingury and dislocation, and bilateral superior and inferior pubic ramus fractures. She was ventilator dependant from the begining and developed pulmonary insufficiency (breathing difficulites).  She received a tracheotomy and gastostomy tube for the remainder of her hospital stay. Because of the severity of the femur fracture and infection, she ultimately recieved an above the knee amputation. She was in the hospital a total of 5 months.
Mona is now permanently disabled and is still battling an unknown infection in her bones and spine that the doctors can't seem to diagnois.  Due to the Affordable Care Act changing the way medical benefits are awarded, Mona is in a small percentage of people who fall through the cracks of the so called "Affordable Care Act" system, Mona does NOT qualify for Medicade. The problem with that, is that she also doens't make enough money to qualify for a policy on the health care exchange. In short, she makes too much money for medicade ( SSI benefits are 100% of her total income), but doens't make enough for a policy through the affordable care act health exchange.  What this means is that she is not eligible for ANY medical coverage what so ever. I have contacted our state representatives and Bobby Jindal's office.  I was put in contact with the state medicade office for them to tell me that there is NOTHING they can do because LA didn't participate in expanding Medicade.  She is one of those people who have NO options for medical coverage.  She is still battling an infection that isn't diagnosed and needs constant reajusting of her prosthetic.  From our family to yours, Thank you for anything you can donate to help with her medical expenses.  Luke 6:38 Give, and it will be given to you. good measure, pressed down, shaken together, running over, will be put into your lap.  For with the measure you use, it will be measured back to you! Most of all we covet your prayers for continued healing in her body, and the meeting of her financial needs!
