Donations for Grant Terrell

Beschermde donatie

Since completing Grant's playground we have been asked by others if there is somewhere they can make donations to the family therefore, we are keeping the page open and have changed the name and goal amount. Any donation is much appreciated regardless of the amount. Personally I'd rather have 100 people give $1 than one person give $100 dollars as it increases awareness and prayers which is much more important than $$$.

Our original plan was to use what personal funds we have on hand to do the project and add to it as funds allowed as we are not the type to seek out assistance for ourselves. However, after posting the below excerpt to Facebook we were given the recommendation to start a gofundme page and we received request from others of where to send funds we decided to create a gofundme page to help fund Grant's playground. If you can give it is much appreciated and if you can't give or aren't moved to give for this cause we appreciate your time to visit this page.

If you are not familiar with Grant you can visit his page on Facebook at Pray for Grant Terrell or

, you can also see more pictures of the progress of Grant's playground.

To arrive at the goal listed above we calculated the retail cost of doing the individual projects properly with no shortcuts with a little buffer built in for unexpected expenses.  The plan is to use volunteer labor from family and friends.

"We were looking to sell and build something very modest because we have no flat land at the house but with everything we have going on we have decided that selling, finding the right piece of land, building, packing, and unpacking is too much for us at the moment with Grants treatments taking place. When we bought the house we were childless and after we were blessed with the kids the hills weren't a problem as we took them to the local parks several times a week however, with Grant's week immune system that is no longer an option. We are trying to give Grant the best quality of life we can for however long we are bless with him. Since I haven't adjusted my tax withholdings my overpaid taxes are funding the project.

We've had someone cutting down the hill behind the house the last few weeks to give Grant a flat place to play. It has gotten to the point that it's all he can do to walk in the yard for a couple of minutes before his legs start hurting. If not for Grant's condition this project would not be taking place

I need willing backs and your connections to turn a champagne taste into a reality on a shoe string budget. The goal is to have this completed over the next two weekends. This means it will be a month before it is ready for him to have access to it.

Due to time constraints seeding it is not an option so we have to sod the yard. The lower level is roughly 30 x 100 and the upper area is roughly 20 x 100(including the slope leading up to the upper level) We need a sod that is low maintenance as our schedule keeps us on the run and cutting grass several times a week is not an option, we need something soft on bare feet for the kids to play and roll around on, and we need something that can withstand light vehicle traffic as it will be occasionally driven across to get to the river and occasionally parked on for overflow parking. My research shows Zeon Zoysia would be a good option however, without connections the cost may be prohibitive. TifBlair Centipede seems to be an option as well however; I'm not sure how much the kids will like it under their bare feet. Tifway 419 is likely leading the way as it seems to be the most budget friendly and is locally grown thus easily obtained. However, there is some concern how much maintenance it requires we are likely to have weeks at a time that we are not able to mow the grass.

The hills sides will likely be seeded with creeping red fescue, rye grass, and maybe some clover for the wildlife. This area will be a no maintenance / natural area.

Our existing retaining wall was structurally damaged when digging out the lower level so a new retaining wall is needed. Thought about a rail road tie wall but it seems a waste as the ties will just rot out. A brick wall would be nice as it is more permanent however, without connections this isn't an option due to budget issues and skill set required to PROPERLY do it. We would like to do a wall to the top of the hill as it would give the most play area up there however budget may only allow for a 3' wall with a sloped section covered with mulch or something that needs no maintenance. Half way down the wall there needs to be steps to access the upper level from the back door of the house.

We need to pour two concrete pads. One 10 x 10 for a kennel and one roughly 20 x 20 for a cover play area/sitting area/outdoor kitchen. It would be nice to get the shelter build but it likely isn't in the budget. Attached is some pictures of what we'd like and also what we would settle for.

An outdoor spigot will be easily added for the covered play/sitting/outdoor cooking area as there is a water line that is already in place. We have also talked about running a wire and outdoor breaker up to it for lights and possibly fans at a later date as the budget allows.

We are looking to get a nice swing set but not too NICE, a sand box, outdoor furniture, and a fire pit so that Grant can cook some smores. Grant can't play in the sand box until the trach is removed but it needs to be taken into consideration when laying the sod.

For safety to keep Grant from falling driving off the hill tops we need to install ~250' of fencing

We've also taken into consideration Grant's power wheels and he should have a large course to up and around the area.

The goal is to have most of it completed over the next two weeks. If it is completed in two weeks it will be at least a month before Grant can start enjoying it. If you can help there is an urgency to hear from you as I need to start planning this out and locking down prices/products over the next few days."
