During the invasion of M23 rebels in the Eastern Congo, 126 women were victims of rape by soldiers and rebels in 10 days between November 20th and 30th 2012. An 80 years old woman and an 8 years little girl who both died after being gang raped. 4 months later, 80 more women and girls reported rape.
The women and girls who survive are marginalized and abandoned but they hope of a better tomorrow and together we can help make that hope a reality.
In order to become self sufficient and independent, each woman needs $200.00 as capital to start up her own business. This initiative is sustainable by operating as a revolving fund
(pay it forward).
What difference will I make? You can contribute any amount and every $200 collected will help support 2 women in 1 year, 10 women in 5 years and will be on going as the women pay it forward .
How does it work? Each woman who receives a $200.00 fund to start her own business will pay it forward by returning the $200.00 fund within 6 months after starting her business to help fund another woman in need and that woman will do the same and so on.
Please help these women go from being victims to being successful leaders who invest in their communities, support their families and are able to send their children to school.
The Institute of Gender Democracy and Development of Congo is a not-for profit organizations supporting women and girls through two components: capacity building (ad-hoc training for women and girls, the civil society and public and private institutions) and hands-on programming.
