Chasing A Dream...

Donation protected
Pursuing dreams can be very discouraging, but I've always listened to that voice that whispers to you "keep going". Living life for the past 22 years has been almost anything but easy. I am so thankful and wouldn't change or trade my experiences for anything; they've made me into the young man I am today. They say, "If you want to make God laugh, tell him your plans". When I was 15 years old my life and dreams had changed. Who knew falling in love with a ballerina would have me signing myself up for ballet class, but little did I know my journey and my destiny were connected to my new found dreams. When I think of my dreams so much joy fills my heart and all of my doubts and fears subside. I know it sounds cliché but I have a dream, a big dream! My dream is to inspire people and to let the world know that no matter your circumstances believing and working towards your heart's desires can change your life, but more importantly others life's as well. I believe my purpose is bigger than me. In the field of dance nothing is promised except rejection.

Growing up, the way life was going before dance, I don't think I would've made it to the age of 25. With all my being, I love to dance and dance has saved my life. When I wake up in the morning the first thing I do is crack my ankles and point my feet. Dance has allowed me to travel and share my gift with thousands of people. Who knew 6 years ago that I would be wearing tights and "twirling" through space creating, expressing, and living through such a prestigious art form?

Dance has shifted my life in a whole new direction. With only 6 years of formal training I've been accepted into dance programs such as The American Ballet Theatre's Summer Intensive on full scholarship, and Alvin Ailey's summer program and year round program on scholarship. During my time at Ailey, I was able to perform with The Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater twice in my first semester. I was also invited to dance with the Civic Ballet of Chicago, performing Nutcracker, and a few other opportunities.

Recently I've been accepted into Dance Theatre of Harlem's Summer Intensive with an advance level scholarship but even with the scholarship I still need assistance with other expenses such as housing, transportation, food, tuition, and purchasing new dance attire. This is an amazing opportunity to grow technically and as an artist. I'm working extremely hard to get a few things knocked off the list. I heard of "GoFundMe" and wanted to use this amazing opportunity to share a little bit about myself and to humbly ask for everyone's support in chasing and pursuing my dreams. It would mean the world to me. Thank you so much for taking the time out to read a little about Malik Berry. Let's help me get back to New York!
