Help support a refugee family!

Donation protected
Mohammad, his wife and their almost 3 year old son arrived from Afghanistan last February. Recently, they welcomed their new baby daughter to the family. Mohammad worked as a translator for the US military; his wife suffered an injury from a bomb blast that hit her home during fighting with the Taliban.  The family has been resettled with help from the International Rescue Committee, but they are living in terrible conditions, in a roach-infested 15'x15' studio apartment in an unsafe part of Oakland.

This effort to help the family was started by this family's midwife at Highland Hospital. Together with caring friends, we have gathered household items the family needs, but we also want to raise funds (first and last month's rent and security deposit) to help them move into a bigger, cleaner and safer apartment. Mohammad earns a meager salary at a menial job, and his wife is unable to work due to her traumatic injury. We want to help them afford some child care for their very active toddler; because of her injury, the wife is unable to take him out to do activities and they are constantly cooped up inside - now with a newborn baby as well.

Will you help us show our true colors as a nation of immigrants, during this time of horrific anti-immigrant and anti-Muslim rhetoric? Even a modest donation will make such a difference. There are so many refugees and immigrants that need our help, and we cannot help everyone -- but together we can make a significant difference for this one special family.

Thank you!
