Ann Arbor Rockets Hockey Program

Tax deductible
WHO WE ARE
The Ann Arbor Rockets Hockey program (501c3 nonprofit) was founded to ensure that children and adults with a variety of medical and/or developmental conditions would have an opportunity to play competitive ice hockey. Athletes frequently have developmental conditions such as autism, ADHD, cerebral palsy, spina bifida, cognitive, behavioral and/or learning difficulties and early medical challenge such as prematurity. We are a volunteer and non-profit organization with no paid employees or coaches. Our coaching and management team is amazing and dedicated to the success of the team!

WHAT WE DO
Ann Arbor Rockets athletes participate during the ice hockey season (generally September/October to April/May) in weekly on-ice practice sessions working on traditional ice hockey skills. Targeted skills include stick/puck handling, skating agility, balance and coordination, and development of strategy. Because the target participants also have a variety of disabilities including physical, developmental and intellectual disabilities the activities on-ice and off-ice also target practicing turn taking, social skill development, self-reliance and responsibility, supporting peers and focusing on team over individual success, and building confidence. In addition to traditional team practices, athletes participate in exciting and fun scrimmagesas well as formal tournaments and regional Jamborees where teams from both local and distant programs come together for friendly competition. Some athletes skate their first day, while others use a full season to learn how to glide comfortably 5 feet or keep focus on instruction; ALL ATHLETES ARE WELCOME!

WHY WE NEED YOUR HELP!!
Hockey is an expensive sport and we will never turn a family or athlete away. Some of our athletes have already been turned away from programs due to physical, cognitive or behavioral challenges and we remain open to interested athletes. We need your help to outfit our team with matching jackets, safety gear that fits, payment for ice (very expensive!), tournament fees and ensuring that those who cannot affort the required insurance fee can still join us without concern. Without the generous donations of money, equipment and volunteers we simply could not exist. Our Rockets family is amazing on the ice and we hope you'll help us thrive!
