Help us Help Riley

The first two years of Riley's life through 27 hospital admissions and 14 surgeries were filled with fear and hopes that he would live, smile, and laugh. Now, at 3-years old, we watch Riley laugh and smile all day long. The trauma of these first two years had a profound effect on Riley's developmental growth, and our focus is now on providing him with the continued care and therapy that he needs to move forward. He took his first steps a few days after his 3rd birthday and we are still hopeful that he will say his first words soon. We were fortunate to find a special needs school that was a fit for Riley - and also fortunate that he received a partial scholarship! However, the cost of this school is still twice the cost of any private caregiver due to qualifications and the therapy he requires (physical, speech, and occupational) is three times what it was in the first two years. Riley needs this care to facilitate his recovery and overcome as best he can the developmental delays suffered as a result of the medical trauma during his first two years.  He needs this school and therapy program to learn how to perform things we think are so simple such as communicating and eating.  He has overcome so much during his short life, our goal is to help him continue to overcome.  To learn more about Riley's first two years, you can visit rileysjourney.com.
