Hi FBF and family, we're in a bit of a crisis... Appx. 2 weeks ago a large mass began to form in the roof of Myron's mouth. In the beginning we'd hoped it was some sort of swollen sinus cavity and we were trying to wait it out. After days of unbearable pain and inability to sleep and trouble eating, we decided we'd better make a trip to the ER. Cat scans we're done to reveal that this mass was substantially larger than we'd imagined and growing rapidly- ranging from his tear ducts and protruding almost golf ball size through the top palate in his mouth. We were sent immediately to a specialist that advised us we must then get in with an oral & maxillofacial surgeon in Boerne without delay.
With the help of a wonderful friend, we we're able to get him into the surgeon yesterday. Upon examination of xrays we were told a biopsy must be done posthaste to determine if it's a cyst (fingers crossed) or a cancerous tumor, and sadly, that it has already done so much damage. (the top palate bone is gone, nasal pasages, even the maxilla (the bone that holds your top teeth)
Why gofundme? Myron doesn't have health insurance. And, honestly folks I don't like to ask for help but i've exhausted all options I can think of. (DARS - not for emer service, end of May appt. avail., indigent health care apps. (because the procedure isn't done here of course that isn't an option), I thought id apply for indigent health at the performing hospital but the procedures are (of course) done in the clinic of the surgeon. Due to the urgency, there's no time for me to set up benefit BBQ's etc. I am looking into finding ins. or emer. medicaid etc but that will take a little time too.
His first procedure is Tues. morning, in which they require half down at time of service and the remainder over a 3 month period. After the biopsy we'll know more and hopefully have a course of action or something in place - God willing.
We're trying to stay positive and believe in the Power of Prayer and ask that you keep Myron in your's.
