Zion Children's Home Mission Trip

Donation protected
On July 27th, I am travelling to Current Island, Bahamas to work for a week at the Zion Children's Home. Zion's Children's Home is an orphanage for Bahamian children. Currently, the home houses 6 children-- 3 boys and 3 girls. The youngest child is 2 and the oldest is 9.
This mission serves many purposes. The main goal for the trip is to assist in the construction of a new storage building which will be used to house school supplies, pantry items and sundry goods needed to sustain the children's basic needs.

To travel to the island, it will cost me $1200.00. This will cover my flight to Nassau from Washington, D.C., the room and board fee and the prop-plane fees. (Yes, I-- the terrified air traveller--am going to brave my fears and take not only a regular plane, but a tiny little prop plane... Can you tell this means a lot to me?)

In addition to this purpose, I, personally, have the goal of providing each child with a hand-made quilt of his or her own. These children frequently live with the barest of items to their names-- they get what is provided to them. However, my goal is to provide each child a quilt of their own; a warm blanket to comfort them while sick, to cuddle with when lonesome or even to make a fort with-- like a child should!

Examples of quilts I will make for the children.

For these children, to "own" an item--let alone one which was made especially for them is a foreign concept. Doesn't every little child deserve their own blanket?

For me to sew one quilt, it typically costs 25 dollars. So, to make 6: $150.00 I will select fabrics with each child in mind. When I arrive at the Zion's home, I will photograph the child with their quilt-- and make sure you see the picture!

I also intend to travel with a care package of the bare necessities and a new outfit and new pajamas for each child. Using the funding wisely, I anticipate this to cost $200.00. OR, you could consider donating these items themselves! Gently used items are fine.(See my wish list!)

I will have a donation box in my classroom if you prefer to provide tangible items! Or, come visit me. Seeing you would be great!

I have taken trips like this in the past and the experiences I have with them are invaluable to me. Giving to and helping others is one of my main purposes in life. Would you please consider helping me? Any little bit will help and be GRATEFULLY recieved.
