Miracle Maria - Let's get Maria home

Donation protected
Hi all,

My mum Maria suffered a massive bleed on the brain which caused a severe stroke at the age of 48. The underlying cause of this is a very rare syndrome.

My mum was touching deaths door. My dad took me and my three brothers and fiancé to kiss my mum goodbye for the last time...

Amazingly within an hour of this happening Kings College in London accepted my mum and gave her a chance to live. After undergoing a major operation on her brain my family was told to 'plan for the worst and hope for the best' as her life hung in the balance. Dad was told in no uncertain terms that if Mum did make it that the prognosis was pretty bleak.

After several days in intensive care the doctors decided to turn down the sedation and see what way mum reacted if at all. After a few days mum briefly opened her eyes. We spent hours talking to her and trying to find anything that we thought would stimulate a response. Dad downloaded their wedding songs onto his phone and played them to mum with tears rolling from his face onto hers. This broke my heart but the day after she started to move her right arm and a couple of days after this she started nodding. After 10 days in ICU she was breathing without a ventilator, talking and sipping water.

Maria (my mum) is now on a specialist stroke ward in hospital and is doing well. She has many weaknesses but these can be worked on and she is incredibly determined. The next step is hopefully a rehabilitation unit where they will try and progress her as much as possible.

To come as far as she has the doctors and consultants have called her a "miracle" and she's our miracle.

The long term goal is that mum will return back to where she belongs so that our house once again becomes a home, however to achieve this we need to make a lot of changes and adaptations for her disabilities so that she may live every day life to the full and as safe as possible. This will include moving her bedroom to the ground floor and the construction of a walk-in/wheelchair wet room, floor levelling and a disabled designed kitchen that will give her the independence needed to regain her dignity, confidence and purpose in life. This is the part where you guys come in... any donation whatsoever will be received with true heartfelt thanks and appreciation and please be assured that every penny will go to our Miracle Maria's cause. I will post updates along the journey.

Everyday my dad and I would go see mum first and he would always say to her 'if you win your battle, then we will win the war'. My mum has done her part in winning the battle so would you please help us win the war and get her back home where she belongs?

Thank you for reading this.
