<div>My name is Beth Ann McNally, and I am fundraising on behalf of my father, Stephen McNally. My hope is that we are able to raise some funds to ease the financial burden of Dad's current medical condition: esophageal cancer. My mom, Sharon, is currently the only available full-time caretaker for my father as we embark on this journey, which means she will likely have to take some time away from work to run him to appointments and watch over him during various rounds of chemotherapy and the highly invasive surgery he will need in order to completely eradicate this disease from his body.

<div>If you know our family and keep up with us on any level, I am sure many of you are familiar with how we got here, but if not, I would be happy to share why I believe my father and my family as a whole need financial and spiritual relief. My dad has been struggling with his health for over thirty years now with what originally started as type one diabetes while he was in his thirties. Despite this diagnosis, he spent months in denial until it landed him in the hospital and he had to face the truth: He was chronically ill. From this point on, he treated his diabetes while juggling working full-time. I believe this is the first time that my father felt his autonomy was taken from him. Diabetes was his main issue for as long as I can remember, up until he got his kidney transplanted and his pancreas a few years after. In fact, he got a new kidney in November of 2023 from my lovely mother. We have had many triumphs with my dad's health, and I have seen him bounce back time and time again.

<div>In the beginning of March 2025, my dad started having trouble swallowing his food. He had GERD and several GI issues most of my life, so seeing him swallow hard or burp while eating was fairly normal and usually something he would do to pester me because I found it gross, lol. With that being said, this time was entirely different. His face would go red, his eyes would bulge, and most importantly, he looked scared. I think that is when we all realized this was a problem, but we just booked a doctor's appointment and hoped it would go away. From this point on, the issue only progressed, with three Sundays in a row during late March and early April being spent in the ER. The medical team approached it the same way every time: they put him under, expanded his esophagus with a balloon, and either pulled the food out or pushed it down into his stomach. Ultimately, at his last visit, he got a new physician, and this one mentioned something we never dreamed for him: cancer.

<div>My father has crumbled since then. He now has a port in his chest, weighs nearly 30 pounds less than he did, and the worst part is he can't eat. That is not to say they have advised him not to or he hasn't tried, but that he quite literally can't. For nearly a month he attempted to eat just to have to "throw it up," though I struggle to call it that considering it never makes it past the stricture in his throat. My dad is withering away before my eyes, and he has only just started chemo due to countless delays, and a big surgery is on the horizon for him.

<div>I am fundraising and applying for grants and aid wherever I can because we know this journey will not be easy, and my parents deserve to have some relief after seemingly thirty years of being battered down; they both are in their mid-sixties now. Please help me in giving them control over one aspect of their life, and if you can't donate, please send them a prayer and keep them in your thoughts. My dad has so many things and people to live for and needs all the community support he can get.
