I'll be attending the Veterinary Service Program in Thailand!
Loop Abroad provides small, focused travel programs that allow motivated high school students to experience other cultures and give back while learning about real-world problem solving. Their programs are a life-changing experience where students can build leadership skills, question their beliefs, and work toward discovering what it takes to make a real impact on the world.
I will be helping out medically for one week at the ARK (Animal Rescue Kingdom) Dog Shelter in Chiang Mai, Thailand. I will learn how to assess the dogs' health and do exams, and get hands-on practice providing medical care. The other week will be spent at the Elephant Nature Park, providing hands-on care, love, and support for the 40 elephants who live there. I could even get an opportunity to work with lion or tiger cubs! I could not be more excited about this experience. It will be the chance and the dream of a life time.
Through readings, workshops, discussions, and hands-on activities, I hope to learn all about a new culture and develop some new skills. My trip is certainly about giving back, but it's also about expanding my horizons and experiences. I feel honored to have the chance to travel and study with an organization that works with and supports the Elephant Nature Park, the Save Children in Asia Organization, the Somaly Mam Foundation, Pour un Sourire d'Enfant, the Serengeti Foundation, and the Karen hill tribes of Northern Thailand.
My tuition for the program is $3700 plus airfare, both international and national (over $2000).
I would greatly appreciate any contribution.
Thank you for any help you can provide in making this dream a reality.
