Helping One of Our Own

Dear P.S. 221 Community,

Recently, a family of two of our students suffered a devastating fire that destroyed their rental home and possessions. The family of three are currently staying with friends until can they find another rental home. Their most immediate needs as we approach the holidays is to get settled into a home of their own asap. As we all know, the rental market in today’s economy is priced high and requires up to three (3) month’s rent up front, a challenging amount for any family.

We, the P.S. 221 PTA are asking for your support on behalf of this family, as we have set up a GoFundMe, to assist our own member family in any way you can. Your donation will help the family find and settle into a new rental home, purchase basic furnishings and any other immediate needs. All money collected will go directly to the family. This family is asking to remain anonymous, because asking for help is not an easy thing to do. As parents, we will do anything to ensure the safety, dignity and well-being for our children. We respect and support this family’s decision.

The president of the PTA, Annie Wong and P.S. 221’s Principal, Ms. Bullard, have personally spoken to this family following the fire and confirmed their situation. We are a hardworking community, all doing our best to provide a good life for our family and children. Despite all the planning and preparation we make in our lives, things don’t always go as planned. Let’s come together as a community and lend support to a member who is in need.
