My name is Doreen Bowen. I started this account to help my new son-in-law, Gregg Merloni and his family.
Gregg has suffered with Epilepsy for 20 years now, after a near fatal car accident. In the past year, Gregg has had multiple seizures and has almost lost his life twice, due to the magnitude of his recently diagnosed Status Epilepticus. This is a life-threatening form of Epilepsy. Gregg's last seizure, during routine testing at Brigham and Women's Hospital in Boston, was on March 12, 2014 and lasted over 80 minutes at which time he needed to be intubated and put into a medically induced coma for 2 days to save his life. Needless to say, if he has a seizure in an uncontrolled environment he could lose his life.
Gregg has had to undergo multiple tests recently, so his neurologist could determine whether or not he is a candidate for brain surgery. "Phase I" of testing has proven that the only way to rid him of this life-threatening form of epilepsy is brain surgery. More testing needs to be done to pin-point exactly where the seizure activity is occurring, before he is able to undergo surgery.
Gregg has not been able to drive for a year, and he can no longer be left alone. Because of this, my daughter, Christine has been driving him to and from work, appointments and all other activities. She cannot work a full-time job due to this and must take unpaid time off any time he is hospitalized, has an appointment or is recovering from a seizure.
This is a huge financial burden to them and their four children. Unfortunately, the co-pays and other expenses that his health insurance does not cover have begun to take their toll and it has become increasingly difficult to pay both everyday living expenses and medical bills. I am requesting your prayers and donations to ease the strain as they continue down the long road to brain surgery and recovery.
