Danica was born on 01.26.14. She ended up on life support the next day for 5 1/2 days. She was in the NICU for 4 weeks. She has pulmonary artery hypertension. Her right chamber of the hearts pressure is to high and her lungs need to heal. She has been back in the hospital three times and the last admit was on April 11th thru April 29th because she was not gaining weight. On the 29th she was transferred to Mayo Clinic in Rochester MN where she has been ever since. As of 05.29.14 this is her 5 week there. She had surgery and a biopsy was taken of her lungs. She also had genetic blood testing done. The biopsy was sent to Denver and the blood testing was sent to John Hopkins. The biopsy confirmed that she has a very rare lung disease called Diffuse Lung Disease with Surfactant Protein C Deficiency and possible TTF1, which is a new mutation that they know nothing about. They are still waiting on the blood tests to come back. At this time, they have not decided on therapy. At the moment she would not be considered for lung transplant because she is to up and down. She still remains on oxygen and medications and she will have a G button placed which is a feeding tube put in through the side to the stomach. Her resperations from one day to the next can get real high. At times she has stopped breathing. Currently at 4 months old she weighs 9 lbs and 6 oz. She used to be under the 5% on the growth chart. She does not even register on the growth chart at the present time. Her head and length have not grown. When she has somewhat of a good day, she has a beautiful smile that can light up a room. We ask for continued prayers for Danica and her family, and trusting for answers from reseachers but most of all, we are trusting God. Please help spread the word to help raise finances for medical research and to help financially for the family. The parents have signed over her medical information because Danica will be a case study for this disease.
