Help Binx Fight FIP

Donation protected
Hi! My name is Caitlin and Lane is my partner. We’ve been on this journey to heal our one and a half year-old cat, Binx.

When we adopted him he was filthy and his back right leg has a large scar from when he was hit by a car and needed immediate surgery while in foster care. Around June 20th, 2021, we had noticed extreme lethargy in our newly homed cat. On June 27th, we woke up to a cat that couldn’t walk, was presenting blind symptoms with cloudy eyes, and a slight head tilt.

An emergency veterinary clinic diagnosed him with pneumonia, but we later found that what he had was not pneumonia, and a definitive diagnosis couldn’t be determined. He was given antibiotics and steroids that kept him alive, but not living to his full self.

After the steroids and antibiotics, he was doing okay until September 20th, 2021. This is where he declined rapidly. Within two days he was partially blind, could not walk, and could not use the litter box on his own.
Binx has had every test performed on him possible by a veterinary clinic and emergency veterinary clinic. He was getting worse every day with no answers.

After spending about $4,000 we are desperate to search for answers or a cure. Through networking connections, we were able to connect with a non-profit, FieldHaven Feline Center. They directed us towards a diagnosis of FIP and a treatment plan. Optimistically and with renewed hope we began this treatment plan right away. Binx is currently on day three of the treatment plan and is walking once again after not being able to stand on his own for the previous 6 days.

The treatment is working miracles. We are so incredibly grateful for the people that have rallied around Binx to make this happen.

FIP is a disease that just a couple of years ago was untreatable and 100% fatal. It typically strikes young cats between four months and two years of age. Dr. Pederson at UC Davis devoted 50 years of his career to finding a cure for FIP. Through Dr. Pederson’s research, a cure was found, although it is very hard to obtain and expensive. Binx will need once or twice daily injections for at least 84 days. Lane and I have poured our heart, soul, and yes, our savings into finding a diagnosis for Binx. Now that we have found the diagnosis, and we know it’s treatable, we can’t stop, but our bank accounts have already bled dry. We are scraping everything we can to put towards the medication, but we need help. It’s not easy to ask for help, but we can’t give up on Binx now! We hope you’ll agree and help fund Binx’s FIP journey to a cure.

Anything at all helps. We’ll be continuing to fund some of Binx’s medication, but we just can’t do it alone. We cannot thank you enough for reading Binx’s story.
