DC's Fight

As so many of you know, my son Derek has been fighting a health battle for the past few years.  He was diagnosed in 2011 with PMP(Pseudomyxoma peritonei) ­which is a very rare and aggressive form of cancer that starts in the appendix.  Derek fought hard and after months of surgeries and chemo, he was in remission.  While he was going through the treatments, he organized  two large fundraisers for the PMP foundation with 100% of the proceeds going to the foundation for research.  He never gave up and has always been more worried about how his illness impacts his family and friends than for himself and still worked hard to give back with the hope that through more research, someone else may not have to fight this fight.

 

Last month, Derek found out that he had a tumor in his liver and the cancer was not just back but aggressive as well.  He had a plan in place to begin chemo but his bilirubin levels are too high.

 

After his first diagnosis, he has been unable to work full time and the medical costs have wiped out his savings.  The medical costs continue to add up as we scramble to find alternative medicines and treatment to get Derek through this.  In addition without any income, his day to day living expenses are becoming a challenge.

 

All money raised will go towards Derek's medical costs and living expenses while he fights the fight of his life and will allow him to focus on fighting instead of the expenses.
