On Tuesday, February 9, 2021, a great supporter of Salt Lake Valley trails and a good friend of mine, James Logan, suffered from cardiac arrest while working. Luckily, people were nearby and he was rushed to the hospital in a comatose state. He somehow survived.
Now awake and on the road to recovery, he is facing a significant financial hurdle. Insurance is covering 75% of his healthcare cost but we estimate he will be responsible for more than $28,000 in hospital bills, which include an extremely expensive but necessary and life-saving defibrillator.
That is roughly the same amount of money James has raised to repair Salt Lake Valley trails for thousands of riders within the past year. If you've experienced the Corner Canyon trail system and the Bobsled downhill trail, it's highly likely you have James to thank for the fun and post-ride high-fives. He has not only raised money for the trails, but also redesigned and personally rebuilt them to maximize flow, organized and led build days, and put hundreds, if not thousands of hours of time into his mountain biking projects, never once seeking accolades or payment for his hard work. He did it all for you.
James's impact on our local trails has been significant. He is dedicated, knowledgeable, patient, hard-working, and extremely altruistic. He would never ask us to create a Go Fund Me page, but we know Salt Lake Valley mountain bikers share these traits with James and support each other on and off the bike. James has made the trails better for all of us. He has poured his heart into improving Salt Lake Valley mountain biking. Now, let's make things better for him, and help him keep that heart beating.
