Bella's Surgery

Donation protected
My name is Bella O’Brien-German and this is my story. Jonathan found me when I was in bad shape about five years ago in an abusive home, I was very thin and only a year and a half old, I had cigarette burns on my forehead from being punished and my ears had sores on them from being in such rough shape. Jonathan vowed to come back to rescue me, when I was cowering on cardboard he was very kind to me. He let me be a dog for the first time.  I ran in the grass, chewed on toys and slept in the softest bed, I didn’t demand much since I had such a hard beginning. For the first three years with Jonathan he would walk me in early mornings and late nights to protect me from my triggers. Bicycles, joggers and people hugging were all new to me, and I was very afraid and aggressive until Jonathan showed me I was safe and I started to calm down. Two years ago I met a wonderful lady named Tracy, my fairy god mother. She became my best friend and also would take me out on walks to the beach . I learned to trust her quickly, she helped me discover my love for swimming as well as behaving. She taught me fun tricks including to speak, lay down, sing, heel, and overall have a better temperament. She’d take me to her home for sleepovers whenever my Jonathan can’t bring me somewhere, and I have the most fun with new treats and toys.

On October 28th Bella was brought into emergency vet care by Tracy and met later by Jonathan. On this night Bella and Tracy were having a typical fun sleepover, only to be ruined by Bella’s sudden health decline when she became violently ill under Tracy’s care. To Jonathan and Tracy’s surprise, the veterinarian informed them Bella was in critical care for a uterus infection that needed surgery, and she also had aspiration pneumonia . This news was heartbreaking and terrifying, as Tracy and Jonathan were not sure they’d have the strength or means to keep their beloved family member healthy and alive. Luckily, Tracy was able to maneuver the resources to supply the money for Bella’s surgery. In the coming days the Vet kept them informed, with Bella’s surgery being a success but she still has a way to go before a full recovery. Although this story has a happy ending, there are hard times among us for everyone in the community, times made easier with the loyalty pets give us. However, that love and loyalty does not make up for those pesky vet bills which can be just as daunting as an ill companion. Thus, the friends and family of Bella, Tracy, and Jonathan are asking you to contribute, if possible, to assist with Tracys’ financial recovery from these traumatic events.
