Dear Family and Friends,
For sometime now, I have been a volunteer with Faith Harvest Helpers (FHH) in Tumwater/Olympia Washington, working mainly in the cannery, canning Salmon for distribution all over the world. I also went with FHH to Gleanings for the Hungry, a base of Youth with a Mission also called YWAM,(pronounced Why Wham). YWAM is an international Missions movement of Christians from many backgrounds, cultures and traditions, dedicated to serving Jesus throughout the world. Last May 2013, FHH became a full-fledged ministry of YWAM. I was so excited.
Bill and I first heard about YWAM in 1984 when crew members from the YWAM Mercy Ship Anastasis, came to our church in Oregon. A year later after moving to McKenna, WA, I heard that the Anastasis was at the Port of Olympia and raced down to the Port. She was a beautiful hospital ship and I was an RN ready to serve God aboard the ship right then and there. That's when I first heard about YWAM's Discipleship Training School (DTS), a first step requirement before joining YWAM. God wasn't ready for me yet.
Faith Harvest Helpers/YWAM will be conducting it's first DTS this Summer, which will run from June 15, 2014 to November 7, 2014. This is a full-time residential training course starting with a classroom or "lecture phase" of 12 weeks, followed by an "outreach phase" of 8 weeks where our class will serve with an existing ministry in a cross-cultural overseas location. This training is promised to be life changing and I am really excited because my application has been accepted. YWAM's mission statement "To know God and to make Him known" has been the cry of my heart all these years and now it is really going to be happening. YWAM is all volunter and everyone is required to raise their own financial support.I hope you can help me raise the necessary funds I need to go to school. If you can't help monitarily, I understand, but please keep me in your prayers.
