Helping fire victims in Valparaiso-Chile

On Saturday, April 12 a devastating fire spread throughout the hills of ValparaÃso, the main port in Chile and one of its most influential cities politically, economically, and culturally. Over 2,000 homes were completely burned, almost 10,000 people were evacuated, and the fires caused 15 deaths so far. This is most definitely one of the worst catastrophes that the city has lived.
Many families were affected by this fire. Among them we have the family of Jorge Loyola; a long time member of the Chilean community in Davis. Jorge's sisters and daughter, who live in the Merced Hill in Valparaiso, lost everything. Along with them, all the families living in the area suffer the same fate having their homes and belongings completely burned down.
This fundraising, initiated by the Chilean Student Association at UC Davis (ChileUCD) and the Chilean Cultural Association of Davis (ChileCAD) is aiming to collect as much money as possible to mitigate the pain and economic needs of these affected families.These two associations are formed by Chilean students at UC Davis and chilean residents in the area as well as US citizens who are friends of Chile. We are represented by the president of ChileUCD Valerie Weinborn and the president of ChileCAD, Francisco Moran both with addresses in Davis, CA.
The people that we are helping are family members and their friends and neighbors of Jorge Loyola; a long time member of the Chilean community in Davis. Jorge's sisters and daughter Daniela, who live in the Merced Hill, one of the seriously affected areas of this fire.
These collected funds, plus those sent directly to the ChileCAD address (saved at the First Northern Bank account No. ****296 Davis Branch), will be sent directly to the Neighbors Association ("Junta de Vecinos Pajonal"), Cerro Merced, Valparaiso, Chile. To the Neighbors Association Bank account No. ******94404 at "Banco Estado" on the name of Reinaldo Munoz (President) and Julia Loyola (treasurer) Neighbor Association directors.
