Monica had been in the hospital for about a week recovering from pancreatitis and an intestinal blockage surgery when on April 14, complications from her illness and surgery brought Josie Danielle into this world via emergency c-section. Josie weighed 1 pound 5 ounces and was 23 weeks 2 days, just a few days shy of "viability."
At at first everyone was somewhat hopeful but in the coming hours things got worse for Josie. Ultimately the NICU nurses brought Josie up to Monica's hospital room so she could spend her final minutes with parents. Less than 24 hours after coming into this world, Josie passed away in her morher's arms.
