Texas has been hit hard by Hurricane Harvey which made landfall as a category four hurricane, and it was the largest hurricane to hit the area in decades. Rockport, Corpus Christi, Houston and so many other places are going to be dealing with so much damage for a long time to come. Flooding, and tornados have already taken their toll. The rain is continuing and the flooding situation is expected to worsen significantly. So many lives have been affected by this terrible tragedy.
Hi Friends! My name is Autumn Hughes, and my brother Phil Hughes and his wife Celina have been displaced from their first floor apartment in Spring, Texas--just north of Houston. The first day of the flood, they spent most of their time trudging back and forth through neck high flood water (my brother is 6'3 for perspective) trying get their 2 pets to the relative safety of their car, as they had planned to wait out the storm in their car. Sadly, their apartment is now under several feet of water, and unliveable. ALL of their personal belongings, furnishings, etc. have been lost to the flood. They, like so many others, had to leave all of their possessions behind. Their complex has temporarily placed them in an unoccupied apartment, however, they are without basic daily necessities--electricity, clothing, toiletries, towels, blankets, etc. They have some canned goods, but essentially, no food and very little water to subsist on. While they do have rental insurance, flooding is NOT covered, so, everything they owned is gone, and a total loss, and they will need to completely start over--from basic items, to pots and pans and furniture. Anything you can donate is much appreciated, be it $1, $5 or more. ALL monies donated (less any campaign fees taken by GoFundMe) will go directly to Phil and Celina to help them start over once the waters recede. Our family is spread across the country and we feel heartbroken for our brother and his family--and they feel helpless and trapped.
