Donating A Kidney

I've thought long and hard about this post. Wondering if I should share with the social media world. I decided it is very worthwhile. See, my brother (Dave Steele), is a very humble man. He doesn't like others gloating over his good doings and has always been a doer for others. Never himself. The journey he has been walking through is one of trials, uncertainty, and emotions never endured by most.

Back in May, I saw a post made by one of Dave's very close high school friends, stating that her husband needed another kidney transplant. Her husband had a kidney removed at the age of 4, leaving him one that wasn't very strong and 11 years ago he received a new kidney, that is now failing/failed. She said one thing that has remained in my heart, "Please pray for us to find a living match. I can't bring myself to hope for another family to experience tragedy, so that my family could be made healthy (although I am a card carrying donor- if it must happen may others benefit)". I copied the post and sent it to my brother and he responded, "I've already contacted mom to see what blood type I am, to see if there's a possibility of me being a match".

Since then, the short version, her prayers have been answered. Dave has been through many test and several trips to doctors in St. Louis and is a match on every level needed and will be donating a kidney to this beautiful family on October 19th. The doctors were amazed at how close a match Dave is. The recipients first donor was his mother and Dave is the exact match as the recipients mother. James will have another chance of life with his wife and son, that just turned one in September, because my brother is an amazing, loving, compassionate person, that has always stepped up when others were afraid.

With this being said, Dave has a wonderful job, but not the best benefits. He doesn't have the comfort of paid time off, such as vacation or short term paid leave, so his time of healing (6-8 weeks) is unpaid. Along with the days off work (unpaid) already missed for tests and doctor visits. The recipient family was denied financial support from the kidney foundation. The family is willing to pay for his recovery time, but they have acquired an abundance of hospital bills that they will be paying for years to come. I would like to alleviate this burden for two families, by asking you to donate to their recovery. Any monies that is more than what Dave needs to cover his time off, will be sent to the recipients family to cover a small portion of the kidney transplant.

I can't even begin to tell you what my brother, his wife and four children are feeling. I can tell you mine. I'm scared, scared of the unknown, but I do know that I am bursting with pride and admiration for my courageous brother and I do know that God will be with Dave and the recipient every step of the way, as He has already been with them during this whole process. Too many things fell into place for this to not be His will. I know God will be guiding the surgeons hands through each step of this transplant. AND! I do know, God will deliver what is NEEDED for both of these families.

I can't begin to thank the ones in advance, that find it in their hearts to donate. Even if I don't know you, know you will hold a special place in our hearts and words can't begin to express our gratitude. Thank you, just isn't enough, sometimes. Please be praying for all involved. Prayers are priceless.
