Melissa Deas and Stephanie Larsen have a combined 22 years of prevention work including: domestic/sexual violence, sex-trafficking, substance abuse, mediation (conflict resolution). Stephanie is a survivor of domestic abuse. Melissa is a site coordinator for a battering intervention program. They met while both being members of a council against domestic and sexual violence. Together, they founded Shine A Light Vision to further the work they are both passionate about.

During a time of so many budget cuts, most non-profits who strive to prevent many forms of abuse are barely able to sustain more than a skeletal staff who are over-worked and desperate to meet the needs of the people they serve. We have found a way to
"help the helpers"; a way that we know works.
The problem with creating events to bring awareness to the community and fund-raise is that people do not walk toward disturbing topics like: human trafficking, domestic/sexual violence, child abuse, elder abuse, LGBT abuse and far too many to write about. We found a way that draws people in to our events and gets them to talk about our cause in their homes and with friends and family.

Shine A Light Vision's Mission: Our vision is through offering this unique awareness package to non-profits working to stop violence in relationships and sex trafficking throughout the United States, we can unite in our efforts to bring awareness and strength to this cause. We see Shine A Light Vision Lamps lit throughout the nation all at the same time making a statement. That statement is that we are united as a nation in our choice to live in a culture that chooses to set women, men, and children free from domestic and sexual violence and sex trafficking. Ultimately, our goal is to establish Shine A Light Vision internationally.
