Hurricane Relief for Dominica

Donation protected
I'm sure you've heard about the recent havoc these hurricanes have had on the Caribbean. My sister-in-law has family in St. Maarten that lost everything due to hurricane Irma and now hurricane Maria has swept across her home island of Dominica. Not only has she lost sleep worrying because days have gone by with no contact with family, she now feels compelled to send supplies. Only very few family members don't live on the island, so the majority of her family is suffering right now. We have set up a project to collect needed items to send but we know there is a hefty fee to get these items there.

Just to sum up the damage in Dominica, this was most recently reported: So far, nine deaths from the storm have been confirmed – two on the French island of Guadaloupe, which was hit hard. Earlier, the small island of Dominica also was slammed, with the prime minister, Roosevelt Skerrit, saying that his nation was “devastated.” Early on Wednesday, officials said at least seven people had been killed there.
By early Tuesday morning, phone and internet signals on Dominica appeared to be down, leaving the island virtually incommunicado.

Dominica is the one of (if not the) youngest island in the Caribbean with a population of roughly 72,000. I can only imagine the level of despair there - and not being able to communicate on top of that. The family here in the states are left in a frenzy.

We would like to prepare and have the funds to send relief and possibly family to help on the island as soon as it's deemed safe to travel there. We are fortunate to not have natural disasters catastrophic enough to leave us with nothing and nowhere to evacuate. The people on this island literally had nowhere to go --- surrounding islands had already been tore apart so they couldn't have sought help from those places.

Anything you can do would be great! We can only hope that if we ever found ourselves in this same situation, surrounding countries would be just wiling to come together and help. Thank you!

Some of the items needed are as follows:

Clothes
Toiletries
Sheets, blankets
Diapers
Baby food
Canned food
