Steffie's Journey to Haiti!

Hello!

As I embark on my final year of graduate studies at Lesley University, wherein I am specializing in Dance Movement Therapy and Mental Health Counseling, one thing that has remained true to me is that:

"˜You have to believe in the work:it will carry and inspire':

The ARTS have the power to provide inexplicable healing and support to the lives of many. As such I am excited to share that between June 20th 2014 to July 5th 2014 this coming summer, I have been chosen to represent Lesley University, as a part of an Expressive Arts Therapy Volunteer Support team that is heading to do amazing work through the arts in Haiti with many of the families that are still affected by the devastating earthquake!

Our Work!
The first week of the project, we will assist with several community-based projects with a focus on the environment and clean water. Projects may include installing Biosand water filters, planting trees, and education projects with children. We will also support the community of LaVallee as they prepare for the annual celebration of the founding of this region on June 24th 2014.

The second week of the project will involve running a day camp for teachers and students from up to 6 different primary schools. We will be responsible for preparing lessons that explain to teachers how the ARTS can be integrated into curriculum and the benefits of this. They will model their lessons during a 3-hour summer camp for children. As volunteers, we will experience the benefits and challenges of organizing projects, teaching, and working with community leaders in Haiti.

Our Partners!
Lesley University has partnered with Volunteers For Peace, who have organized this project directly with the local community, school directors and our Clean Water for LaVallee staff and community leaders in Haiti. Clean Water for LaVallee is a VFP project with the goal of installing Bio-sand Water Filters in all 58 schools in LaVallee. In addition to installing the filters wet rain Community Health Promoters (CHP) and Youth leaders in areas of health, water and the environment. You can follow Their work on this project by visiting our Clean Water for LaVallee webpage. Organisation des Universitaires Valleens pour les Progress (OUVAP) is made up of university students and local leaders and will assist in cultural integration and exploration of Haitian art and music!

How YOU can HELP!
Our team will be doing amazing work with these families and members of the Haitian community. If you can, please donate what you can to help me on my journey to Haiti his summer:

Much love!
